Caledonia, the hub of the North Queens, is the largest community in the area.
First settled by the Scots during the early 1800's, it became a centre of activity when the train station
was located there in 1903. Caledonia has always been dependent on agriculture and forestry, and these vocations
are still very popular in Caledonia today.
Caledonia offers a great deal of resources to the
traveler, including several food stores, a liquor store, a lumber mill, a post office,
a pottery shop, a pharmacy, a butcher, and a hardware store. Comfortable accommodations
are available a short distance away. In addition, Caledonia offers several attractions to the tourist, including
the North Queens Heritage House Museum, the Queens County Fair, and also nightly music
and convenient picnic tables in Miriam Hunt Park.
