"Freeman Families of Nova Scotia and their Ancestors and Descendants and Allied Families" was compiled by Viva E. Freeman and was originally published in 1986.

In her 1531 page work, Mrs. Freeman included both comprehensive and easy to follow genealogical information on Nova Scotian Freemans and many families related to them, including a 256 page index. She later published a 52 page Supplement to “Freeman Families of Nova Scotia”.

Because of the vast amount of data she compiled, and because many of the Freemans were concentrated in the Queens County area of Nova Scotia, "Freeman Families of Nova Scotia" immediately became a standard reference for genealogists researching almost any family with roots in that region. The 3 volume set also became a collector's item, so much so that it has become almost impossible to purchase.

In 2000 the North Queens Heritage Society approached Mr. Forbes Freeman, with a request that the Society be granted permission to republish his late wife's work. Mr. Freeman graciously agreed to allow the Society to reproduce "Freeman Families of Nova Scotia" under license. Copyright remains the property of Viva Freeman’s heirs; any reproduction of this material, produced by the North Queens Heritage Society, is a violation of that copyright.

The North Queens Heritage Society and all Freeman - related genealogists are grateful to Viva Freeman for compiling such an excellent genealogy and to Forbes Freeman for his permission to reproduce "Freeman Families of Nova Scotia".
